Daniel Sofer is a mechanical engineer (specializing in internal combustion engines) from the Politecnico di Torino (Italy), founder and Engineering Director of the company DSA, dedicated to the creation and manufacture of innovative fuel injectors and combustion management systems for alternative fuels with totally revolutionary concepts. Over almost three decades of Research, Development and Applied Engineering, technologies and systems have been created for engines ranging from Formula One engines to large-scale thermoelectric plants. For years, dedication has been focused on the use of alternative and renewable fuels in engines originally operating on the Diesel cycle, effectively creating a new way of managing combustion: neither Otto cycle nor Diesel cycle. In this new frontier of combustion management, ethanol is emerging as a fuel of particular applicability, starting with the sugar-energy sector itself.

He is currently the director of two companies:

Fundamento Consultoria e Engenharia – A company that draws up industrial engineering projects in various disciplines, as well as process safety studies, reports and installation drawings related to NR.10, 12 and 13.

DoQR Tcnologia – Develops and implements information management software applications, involving the digitization of collection and action and communication plans and the digital presentation of online management dashboards. He has been active in the sector since 2003. Currently, he is the executive president of the Sugar-Ethanol Industries Association of Minas Gerais – SIAMIG – and the Unions of the Sugar and Alcohol Industry in the State of Minas Gerais.

In 2021, he assumed the role of Chairman of the Sugar and Alcohol Sector Chamber of the Ministry of Agriculture and Bioenergia Brasil.

Representative of the Civil Society Specialist in Energy at the National Council on Energy Policy, at the Federal Government of Brazil, designated for the period of 2016 to 2018, and reassigned until 2020.

With extensive experience in trade negotiations and trade disputes at the International Trade Commission and the World Trade Organization, Dr. Nastari has acted before the Brazilian Government as Chief Economist in the trade disputes involving ethanol exports to the United States (US ITC), and subsidized sugar exports from the European Union, European Union bananas import regime, and Brazilian regime for the import of used and retreaded tires (WTO).

He is Arbitrator at the “Camara FGV de Arbitragem” (Arbitration Chamber of the Getulio Vargas Foundation), and at “Camara de Conciliação e Arbitragem da Sociedade Rural Brasileira”) and has acted as Expert Testimony in many cases, at this Chamber and at ICC, the International Chamber of Commerce, in Paris.

Lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) – Second Assessment Report (2AR), and Consultant for Biomass Energy other than Wood, to the World Energy Council.

Renata Isfer is Executive President of the Brazilian Biogas Association. She was Secretary and Deputy Secretary for Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels at the Ministry of Mines and Energy from 2019 to 2020. She co-coordinated the negotiation of the revision of the onerous assignment contract and the holding of the surplus auction. She was the Ministry’s Legal Advisor for 3 years and actively participated in the creation of public policies that enabled the recovery of the gas, oil, electricity and mining sectors. I started my career in the trading market in 2006 – one of the first employees of the then Bauche Energy, I followed the company’s implementation and growth over the years, dedicated specifically to the bagged sugar market. Leaving the position of Statutory Director of Bauche, I joined Sucden do Brasil in 2011, accessing the bulk sugar market as responsible for product origination in Brazil. In 2015 I accepted the invitation from ED&F MAN to join the team in London – the international challenge was decisive at that time. After completing 1 year living in London, the company invited me to return to Brazil and take over the trading division as Country Manager of Brazil, where I stayed until 2021 when EDF MAN proposed the challenge of coordinating sugar operations in the Americas, including operations in Brazil, Central America and the United States.

Ulysses Britto de Carvalho, born in Catanduva in the interior of São Paulo, studied in Brasilia and graduated in International Relations from the University of Brasilia/UnB. During this time, he worked in the public sector – the Public Relations Secretary of the Federal Senate and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, having served on Mercosur’s Working Subgroup No. 7 – “Industry” (SGT-7). He also has a postgraduate degree in International Marketing and an MBA in Business Administration from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV).
He began his career in the private sector in São Paulo in the early 2000s, working in international logistics. Between 2003 and 2006, he taught Marketing and International Negotiation on the International Relations course at the Ibero-American University Center (UNIBERO).
In 2006, in the midst of the boom in the national sugar industry, he began his career in the sugar-energy sector when he was hired by Açúcar Guarani to lead the Export Sales area. Between 2015 and 2020, he dedicated himself to the management of Tereos Commodities, the trading arm of the Tereos group, being responsible for the origination of third-party sugar in the Center South and Northeast.
At the end of 2020, he began his career at Sucden do Brasil, focusing on raw sugar origination and trading.
Between 2010 and 2014, he was a member of The Refined Sugar Association (RSA) panel of arbitrators in London.
